Police applications include tear gas protection/riot control, and military CBRN protection of highest degree. Mostly, these gas masks use the 40mm NATO style threaded connectors. While that can potentially make the masks and canisters from different manufacturers interchangeable, they are only certified to standard with their respective brands. For example, MSA gas masks should be used with proper MSA Canisters.
